Personal Message from Jason
Resilience has been a cornerstone of my leadership journey. Early in my career as a principal, I faced a few tough situations. The stress was overwhelming, and I questioned my ability to lead. But through reflection, leaning on my admin team, and focusing on what I could control, I learned that resilience isn’t about avoiding challenges—it’s about embracing them as opportunities for growth. I found strength in small, intentional actions: daily gratitude, seeking mentorship, and staying connected to my “purpose.” These practices not only helped me navigate that tough season but also shaped me into a more empathetic and adaptable leader. My hope for you this month is to discover your own resilience anchors and let them guide you through any challenge.
—Jason
Personal Message from Kevin
Resilience, for me, was forged in the fire of personal and professional setbacks. A few years ago, I faced a health scare that forced me to step back and reassess my priorities. As an administrator, I was used to being the “strong one,” but this challenge humbled me. I learned to lean into vulnerability, ask for support, and practice mindfulness to manage stress. What surprised me most was how this resilience translated into my leadership—I became more present, more compassionate, and better equipped to guide through uncertainty. Resilience isn’t a solo journey; it’s built through connection, reflection, and perseverance. This month, I encourage you to find one practice that strengthens your resilience and share it with your admin team.

Positive Quote
“The oak fought the wind and was broken, the willow bent when it must and survived.”
—Robert Jordan
This quote reminds us that resilience is about flexibility, not rigidity. As leaders, adapting to challenges with grace allows us to endure and thrive.
2P Frequency Framework Strategy: Developing Resilience
The 2Principals Frequency Framework is designed to elevate your life and leadership by aligning your mindset, actions, and energy. To build resilience and cope with stress and setbacks, we focus on three core pillars: Reframe, Recharge, and Reconnect. Here’s how to apply them:
1. Reframe (Mindset Shift)
- What it is: Resilience begins with how you perceive challenges. Reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth reduces stress and empowers you to act.
- How to do it: When faced with a challenge, ask, “What can I learn from this?” or “How can this make me a stronger leader?” Journal your answers to shift your perspective.
- Impact on Principals: Reframing builds emotional agility, enabling you to stay calm under pressure and model optimism for your staff and students.
2. Recharge (Energy Renewal)
- What it is: Resilience requires physical, mental, and emotional energy. Regular self-care practices replenish your reserves to handle stress.
- How to do it: Incorporate micro-breaks (5-minute walks, deep breathing), prioritize sleep, and schedule one “joy activity” weekly (e.g., reading, exercise, or time with family).
- Impact on Principals: Recharging enhances focus and decision-making, reducing burnout and increasing your capacity to lead through challenges.
3. Reconnect (Community Building)
- What it is: Resilience thrives in connection. Building a support network of colleagues, mentors, or friends helps you navigate setbacks.
- How to do it: Schedule a weekly check-in with a trusted colleague or join a principal’s network. Share challenges and celebrate wins to foster mutual support.
- Impact on Principals: Connection reduces isolation, boosts morale, and fosters collaborative problem-solving, strengthening your leadership presence.
Why it Matters: This framework transforms resilience into a proactive leadership strategy. By reframing challenges, recharging your energy, and reconnecting with your community, you not only cope with stress but also inspire your school to thrive. Resilient principals create resilient schools—cultivating environments where staff and students feel supported and empowered.
Monthly Challenge: The Resilience Reset
This month, commit to a 21-day Resilience Reset to build your capacity to thrive amidst challenges.
- Week 1 (Reframe): Journal for 5 minutes daily, reflecting on a challenge and identifying one lesson or opportunity it offers.
- Week 2 (Recharge): Incorporate one self-care practice daily (e.g., a short walk, meditation, or gratitude list). Track how it impacts your energy.
- Week 3 (Reconnect): Reach out to a colleague or mentor to share a challenge or success. Schedule a coffee chat or virtual check-in.
2P Mindfulness Minute: Anchoring in Resilience
Find a quiet space and take 60 seconds to practice this mindfulness exercise:
1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
2. Take three deep breaths, inhaling for 4 counts and exhaling for 6 counts.
3. Visualize a challenge you’re facing. Imagine it as a wave in the ocean.
4. Whisper to yourself, “I am resilient. I bend, but I do not break.”
5. Feel your feet grounded on the floor, anchoring you like a strong tree.
6. Open your eyes and carry this calm strength into your day.
This practice helps you center yourself during stress, reinforcing your resilience as a leader.
